YOU NEVER KNOW

YOU NEVER KNOW – what tomorrow may bring,
It could turn something ugly into a beautiful thing.

Like Joseph, sold into slavery, spending years in an Egyptian prison,
Suddenly freed to rule second only to Pharaoh; thus realizing his vision.

YOU NEVER KNOW - until you try,
You might find your only limit’s the sky.

Like Grandma Moses who started painting at seventy-eight,
Her art gained national acclaim, proving it’s never too late.

YOU NEVER KNOW - whom you’ll inspire,
Perhaps you’ll raise collective consciousness higher.

Like young Anne Frank who wrote about suffering through war,
Her diary is now a call for human decency, for courage and more.

YOU NEVER KNOW – how strong you can be,
Until being strong is the only option to set you free.

Like Nelson Mandela behind bars, decades stuck inside,
He persevered to become President and end apartheid.

YOU NEVER KNOW – what someone else is going through,
Until you walk a mile in their well-worn shoes.

Like in To Kill a Mocking Bird, which showed a different point of view,
Or when you’re lead to an epiphany like Ebenezer Scrooge.

And yes, sometimes YOU NEVER KNOW why,
In the conflict, confusion, and chaos gone by.

Like Daniel Son who waxed on, waxed off – again and again,
He didn’t realize this procedure was a means to an end.

No matter where you’re at, remember anything can happen,
Your luck can turn around and all of a sudden you’re laughin’…

So wake up, chin up, get up and go,
Keep showing up because YOU NEVER KNOW.
